On 21 November 2008, ahead of the 16th APEC leaders' meeting in
Lima, Peru, the governments of Peru and South Korea
announced the launch of negotiations early next year towards a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA).
On 20 March 2009, Peru and South Korea concluded their first round of free trade negotiations.
The second round of negotiations was
held from May 11 to 14, in Lima. The third round of
negotiations took place from 29 June to 3 July 2009,
in Seoul, South Korea and, the fourth round concluded on 26
October 2009.
