  Background and Negotiations
   

On 8 February 2006 Chile and Malaysia initiated the first meeting of the joint study group on the feasibility of an FTA between the two countries. The second meeting was held 25-26 May in Santiago, Chile. On 19 April 2007 Chile and Malaysia began conversations to negotiate a free trade agreement.

The first round of negotiations took place in Kuala Lumpur on 4-5 June 2007. The second round of negotiations were held in Santiago de Chile on 23-24 October 2007. The fourth round of negotiations were completed in Kuala Lumour in 29 April 2008.
