On February 28, 2024, within the framework of the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations of Chile and the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade of Mexico signed the terms of reference (ToR) for the Modernization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
On May 8, 2024, the first meeting on the modernization process of the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and Mexico was held - virtually. This process seeks to update the agreement, which celebrates 25 years of implementation in 2024, by incorporating disciplines related to inclusive trade, introducing chapters on Gender and Trade and MSMEs.
On June 25, 2024, within the framework of the commemoration of the 25 years of the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and Chile, authorities from both countries announced the successful conclusion of the technical negotiations for the modernization of this bilateral treaty, incorporating two new chapters: Gender and Commerce, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
