  Background and Negotiations
   

On January 16, 2018, Panama and China started a joint feasibility to explore the possibility of negotiating a free trade agreement. On March 9, 2018 Panama and China concluded their joint feasibility study.

Panama and China officially launched negotiations of a trade agreement on June 12, 2018 in Beijing, China. Panama and China began their first round of negotiation on July 9, 2018. The second round of negotiations was held in Beijing, China on August 20-24, 2018. The third round of negotiations took place in Panama on October 9-13, 2018.  The fourth round of negotiations concluded in Panama City on November 24, 2018. The fifth round of negotiations was held in Beijing on April 24-26, 2019.
