Argentina

SMEs from all over the country participate in the largest industrial design and innovation exhibition in 50 years

The Ministry of Industry and Productive Development inaugurated the largest industrial design and innovation exhibition of the last 50 years. With free admission, 400 products from each region of the country that stand out for their innovation and quality were exhibited.

Tax relief for 1.8 million companies as a result of the update in the billing amounts to be considered a SME

The Ministry of Industry and Productive Development of the Nation updated the maximum billing amounts determined by the new SME categories to ensure that they continue to enjoy the benefits granted by the SME certificate.

Reduction of the term of payment of Electronic Credit Invoices to SMEs that supply large companies

Bolivia

SIBOLIVIA benefit more than 10,000 productive units with Bs 1,340 million

More than 10,000 productive units of artisans, micro, small, medium and large entrepreneurs in the country benefit from credits from the Trust for the Reactivation and Development of the National Industry (Firedin) with Import Substitution (SIBOLIVIA) with a disbursement of Bs 1,340 million.

Government supports SMEs with Made in Bolivia fairs at Mi Teleférico stations

The national government, through the Pro-Bolivia entity and the State Cable Transport Company Mi Teleférico, dependent on the ministries of Productive Development and Plural Economy and Public Works, Services and Housing, respectively; supports micro and small entrepreneurs with weekly fairs to promote national production with the Made in Bolivia seal at Mi Teleférico stations.

Government opens productive agenda with Conamype to boost national production and commercialization

The Government opened on Friday a productive work and reactivation agenda with the leadership of the National Confederation of Micro and Small Enterprises (Conamype) of Bolivia to empower this sector with greater production and commercialization of national production.

Sebrae and Amazon join forces to support small business entrepreneurs in the digital world

SEBRAE's partnership with Amazon will cover the topics of home and construction, crafts, food and beverages, and internationalization. The Amazon Sebrae Academy aims to expand access to the digital marketplace for small businesses. Last year actions were carried out aimed at the fashion and beauty market.

Sebrae launches the 2023 edition of the Creative Economy and promises news

One of the main instruments to stimulate cultural production and the development of the productive chain of the creative economy, the Sebrae Call for Creative Economy in Rio Grande do Norte, has a date set for the opening of project registrations: April 18.

Canada

The State of Women’s Entrepreneurship in Canada 2023: Research Preview

New research this year highlights the importance of rethinking how we assess the economic impact of SMEs generally and women entrepreneurs in particular. Additionally, there is continued evidence of broader contributions to the United Nations sustainable development goals and net-zero priorities. Canada’s unique Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) has provided a “whole of government” approach to support diverse women entrepreneurs. The strategy focuses on three major components: access to capital; strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem; and knowledge and research, which includes the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) to provide evidence to shape policy and practice.

Chile

Sercotec starts a program to strengthen the commercial districts of the capital with live cooking

With a live cooking activity, the Technical Cooperation Service (Sercotec), under the Ministry of Economy, began the execution of the Strengthening of Commercial Neighborhoods Program in the Metropolitan Region, an initiative that seeks to support businesses, through cooperation, increase their competitiveness and improve the urban environment in which they operate.

Program launched to strengthen SME unions

This year SERCOTEC’s budget will have an increase of 60% to support trade associations of SMEs in the country, through a program that will have financing of $879 million, compared to $548 million awarded to these groups last year.

New productive development committees are launched to move towards decentralization

On Wednesday, March 29, the Productive Development Committee (CDP) was launched, this is a regional entity that will grant greater decision-making power to the regions to solve, in a collaborative manner, the productive, innovation and entrepreneurship challenges in the territories.

Colombia

Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and iNNpulsa invite MSMEs, startups and scaleups to solve technological challenges of Colombian entities

With this initiative, solutions are sought to solve the new challenges to improve the processes and the relationship between the State and its citizens.

Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism opened a call for MSMEs to access international markets

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, through Colombia Productiva and with resources from the IDB, opened the call for Productivity for Internationalization, which will provide specialized technical assistance for Knowledge-Based Services MSMEs. Knowledge-Based Services enterprises are those that make intensive use of technology and the knowledge of their collaborators. In Colombia, they generate more than 1.56 million jobs.

With the Aldea Escala program, 45 SMEs in the country began the business promotion route

The enterprises selected for this first part of the program are part of the manufacturing, agriculture, software, commerce, construction, and circular economy sectors, among others. The intervention process will take place for eight months, seeking to leverage indicators such as sales, jobs and profitability, in the short, medium and long term, thus promoting economic justice in the country.

MICM, UNCTAD and CAPEX award 30 scholarships to women who attended the workshop "Empretec Entrepreneurial Behavior"

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) and the Center for Innovation and Professional Training (CAPEX) awarded 30 scholarships to women entrepreneurs and MSMEs who concluded the international workshop on entrepreneurial behavior. The scholarships were awarded to early-stage entrepreneurs and MSMEs, who completed the training at the United Nations Empretec program..

Panama

Ampyme signs agreement with PROCEM to train teachers and students

The Authority for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Ampyme) signed an Educational Cooperation Agreement with the Fundación Pro-Cultura Empresarial Internacional de Panamá (PROCEM). Through this agreement, the objective is to train teachers and twelfth grade students from public and private schools throughout the country in entrepreneurship and development of business projects.

First version of Expo Café Mipyme 2023

The first version of Expo Café Mipyme 2023 brought together close to 60 small national coffee producers and marketing companies at the Ampyme Convention Center. The activity organized by the Authority of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Ampyme), was carried out in order to encourage exchange between small entrepreneurs, producers, banks, marketing companies, State institutions, in order to promote the movement of the national economy.

Paraguay

There are 272,259 formalized MSMEs in Paraguay, which generate 109,290 jobs, reveals an unpublished report on entrepreneurs to be presented at the MIC

This instructive material also includes unpublished data in the country on the number and characteristics of formalized MSME companies; as well as the formal employment they generate, registered with the Social Welfare Institute (IPS) and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MTESS). The study, which was prepared with real data (administrative records), is the result of work carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, together with the Undersecretary of State for Taxation (SET), the MTESS and the IPS, with the collaboration of the MiPYME COMPITE program, which has the support of the European Union. It is important to highlight that this is the first time that Paraguay can have such a diagnosis of the area, and its segmentation by department, category, size, etc.

MIC starts Training Program for MSMEs and entrepreneurs, on the virtual platform Arandú Renda

The trainings are developed through the Distance Training Platform (PCD) Arandú Renda of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC), and the program consists of 10 entirely asynchronous virtual courses, where they can be taken according to the participant’s availability of time and from any device connected to the Internet. The Distance Training Platform (PCD) "Arandú Renda" is the virtual support of the training programs developed by the Vice Ministry of MSMEs, through the General Directorate of Training in Management and Technical Assistance, with the aim of strengthening the business skills of entrepreneurs and businessmen to successfully manage your business.

Peru

PRODUCE promoted the delivery of a bonus for artisanal fishermen and managed more resources for SMEs

Actions to promote fish consumption in the population with fewer resources were increased. Likewise, the delivery of a bond for industrial fishermen will be evaluated, with an amount to be determined.

PRODUCE authorizes transfer of S/ 150 million to the MSME Entrepreneur fund

The Ministry of Production (Produce) authorized the transfer of S/ 150 million to the MSME Emprendedor fund, in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 000124-2023-Produce, published in an extraordinary edition of the Legal Standards booklet of the Official Gazette El Peruvian.

Produce indicated that with this amount it will be possible to reactivate and strengthen the Cluster Support Program, the Supplier Development Program (PDP) and the reactivated SME contest of the Business Emergency Program (PEE), with an emphasis on promoting and increasing productive development and the productivity of MSMEs and cooperatives.

Produce will allocate S/ 15 million to accelerate innovation and technological development strategies in the regions

In order to boost the competitive growth of the regions, the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) will allocate S/ 15 million to accelerate the implementation of prioritized strategies and projects aimed at promoting key productive sectors through innovation and entrepreneurship.

Produces: More than 80 representatives of SME unions from all over the country participated in work groups

The objective of this participatory process was to further refine a first group of technical information to initiate future calls for PURCHASES FROM MYPERÚ.

Extension: First Call for Applications for the MSME Loan-Grant Facility

The Ministry of Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs issues its first call for applications for the Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) Loan-Grant Facility. The MSME Loan-Grant is an EC$10 million-dollar facility aimed at providing post COVID-19 pandemic relief to registered MSMEs. It is a combination of 70% grant and 30% loan funding at an attractive interest rate of 3% with minimum collateral requirements.

U.S. Small Business Administration Announces 2023 Application for T.H.R.I.V.E. Executive Level Business Training for Entrepreneurs

The SBA's T.H.R.I.V.E. Emerging Leaders Reimagined provides complimentary entrepreneurship education and training for executives of high-performing small businesses. The six-month intensive executive entrepreneurship training series will include in-person coaching, self-paced instruction, mentoring, and classroom time. The program is designed for participants to work with a network of experienced subject matter experts in core business topics like accounting, business strategy, marketing, and human resources, customized for the unique needs of small business owners.

ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES (OAS)

OAS Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Project

The Call for Expressions of Interest is now opened for Women Entrepreneurs in the OECS member states of Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines to join the OAS Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Project. This project targets women-owned and women-led Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and is designed to empower women to actively participate in and benefit from the digital economy and to build sustainable livelihoods.

Through participation in this project, women entrepreneurs will be afforded various opportunities to increase capacity building to digitizing business, building online presence, accessing financial services, benefitting from the digital economy, and accessing international markets. Cutting edge information on relevant topics for business development will be provided, mentoring programs will be made available as well as direct access to a MSME Clearinghouse which provides toolkits and resources to access the digital economy and financial opportunities. Support from a National Working Group in country and partner institutions to enhance businesses will also be available.
