Trade and Environment: Multilateral Environmental Agreements
 
 

Over 250 multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) currently address various environmental issues. According to the World Trade Organization (WTO), about 20 of these include provisions than can affect trade.

Core MEAs often referenced in trade agreements include:

Basel Convention
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)
Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer
Rotterdam Convention
Stockholm Convention
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
